Past Life Regression Through Hypnosis
By Kevin Linehan
Have you ever visited someplace for the first time yet felt as if you had been there before? Have you ever experienced love at first sight? Do you have recurring dreams of places you have never been or of people you have never met, yet somehow they seem familiar? Have you ever met someone and had an instant dislike or lack of trust in that person that is unexplainable? Do you have a soul mate? Have you found him/her/them? Do you have fears or habits that you can’t explain?
If you answered yes to one or more of the above questions perhaps you have glimpsed or made use of memories from your past lives….
In hypnosis the access to the subconscious storehouse of memories is significantly enhanced. There is the ability to not only recall events of the past in great detail but also the ability to vividly relive those events within your own mind. Are the memories an actual record of past lives or are they a product of a hypnotically enhanced imagination?
There are two major theories to past life recall through hypnosis. The first suggests that our subconscious mind holds a complete record of our memories in our current lifetime and also the memories of previous lives. The obvious assumption underlying this theory is that reincarnation does exist. This theory incorporates other mystical ideas such as karma, life lessons, and progression along astral planes to explain why a soul returns.
The second theory used to explain the experiences of the hundreds of thousands of hypnosis clients that have recalled past lives is that the hypnotically enhanced imagination makes up those experiences perhaps to deal with current life situation that are too difficult to accept. There are as many theories or variations of theories as there are people that have experienced past life regression. Each theory is filtered through the personal belief system of the person experiencing the regression.
A past life regression has the ability to become a life altering experience. For example, a person that is afraid of going into the water may discover that he drowned in a previous life. This knowledge will very often be enough to release the fear of going into the water in this life.
One of the most fascinating aspects of a past life regression is “seeing” someone from that past life that also shares in the current life. It seems that “souls” travel through lives together, lending meaning to the term soul mate. Soul mates are not always lovers or spouses. Your husband in a previous life could be your daughter in this life and your best friend in another.
There are certain common threads that in my mind lend credibility to the idea of past lives. I have not run into all of these personally although they are well documented by other past life facilitators. One is the spontaneous shift into speaking another language. In many cases the person has never had the opportunity to learn the language being spoken. Another is in validating what is learned through recalling a recent past life with historical records. A book written by Helen Wambach Ph.D called “Reliving Past Lives, the Evidence Under Hypnosis” uses statistical analysis to show that details of what is recalled in past lives is accurate when compared with historical records of various time periods. If past life memories were really the product of an overactive imagination I would expect a significant portion of these experiences to detail the lives of well known historical figures. Imagination could then combine with the knowledge of the historical figure’s life and fill in the gaps. The chance of someone regressing to find they were Napoleon or Churchill would be like winning the Powerball lottery, ten times!
My most rewarding personal experience as a past life facilitator was working with a recently widowed woman that regressed to another life she had shared with her deceased husband. Through tears of joy she described that past life and the newly acquired understanding that she now knows she will see her husband again. The look of peace and contentment that came over her was extraordinary. Past life experiences often result in shedding the fear of death and easing the pain of loss through the discovery that you will see loved ones again.
New books that document past life regression experiences are being published every year. Two of the books responsible for a huge amount of interest in past life regression were written by Dr. Brian Weiss. They are titled “Through Time Into Healing” and “ Many Lives, Many Masters”. Reading about the experiences documented in these books and others is fascinating by itself. Can you imagine the wonder of first hand experience?
